State Flower of Alabama

The official flower of Alabama is the Camellia which was approved as the state flower on August 26th, 1959 via House Bill 24.  The wording of Bill 24 was as follows: "The camellia is hereby designated and named as the state flower of Alabama."  Prior to the camellia being the state flower of Alabama the Goldenrod was the state flower which became law on September 6th, 1927.

In June of 1999, the Alabama Legislature designated the camellia, (Camellia joponica L.) the Official State Flower.
