Georgia State Fish: Largemouth Bass

Scientific Name: Micropterus salmoides

State Fish Description: The Largemouth Bass is the state fish of Georgia and was dedicated in 1970. The Largemouth Bass is a sporting fish that is a member of the sunfish family. In Georgia and many southern states the largemouth bass is the primary fish most anglers target. Fisherman in Georgia will target largemouth bass in bass tournaments and recreational fishing. The largemouth bass will average around 2 to 4lbs in Georgia with an occasional 8 to 10lb bass being caught.

Where It's Found: The largemouth bass is found throughout North America and is found in Georgia in many lakes such as Lake Lanier, Jackson Lake, Lake Eufaula, Lake Seminole, Lake Sinclair & and many more freshwater lakes and ponds in the state.
