Indiana State Fish: Largemouth Bass

Scientific Name: Micropterus salmoides

State Fish Description: The Largemouth Bass is a sporting fish that is a member of the sunfish family. In Georgia and many southern states the largemouth bass is the primary fish most anglers target. Fisherman in Georgia will target largemouth bass in bass tournaments and recreational fishing. The largemouth bass will average around 2 to 4lbs in Georgia with an occasional 8 to 10lb bass being caught.

Where It's Found: The Largemouth Bass can commonly be found in most lakes and ponds in the United States. In the state of Indiana some popular places to find the Largemouth Bass and fish for them are: Worster Lake, Willow Slough, Beaver Dam Lake, Carr Lake, Palestine Lake, Elk Creek Reservoir, & Brookville Reservoir.
