Alabama Freshwater State FishAlabama Freshwater State Fish Alabama Saltwater State FishAlabama Saltwater State Fish Alabama currently has two state fish, one being the Freshwater State Fish being the Largemouth Bass which was approved the Alabama freshwater state fish in 1975, prior to that the fighting tarpon was the only state fish and is currently the Saltwater State Fish in Alabama which was nominated and approved as the state fish in 1955 .

Largemouth Bass reside in freshwater lakes, ponds & rivers in Alabama and reach weights up to 10lbs with the average being much smaller than that.  The Tarpon on the other hand is a saltwater species that resides in the waters of Gulf of Mexico and reaches upwards to 100lbs.
