California State Flower: California Poppy

Scientific Name: Eschscholzia californica

State Flower Description: The California Poppy is a perennial or annual that grows to 5 to 60 inches. The flowers are a four petaled flower that are generally orange in color. During cold or windy weather the flower will close to protect itself.

Where It's Found: The California Poppy is found in California, extending to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Sonora and northwest Baja California. The Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve is located in northern Los Angeles County is a premier location where you can see thousands of Poppys when in peak blossom season.
