Hawaii State Bird: Hawaiian goose ~ Nēnē

Scientific Name: Branta sandvicensis

State Bird Description: The Hawaiian Goose or Nene is a native to the Hawaiian Islands and is the rarest of all the state birds in the US. The population fo the Nene is approximately 2500. The Nene is a medium sized goose that weighs between 3 to 6 pounds and stands tall about 16 inches. The Nene spends the majority of it's time on the ground and some are even born without the ability to fly.

Where It's Found: The Hawaiian Goose / Nene is only found wild on the Hawaiian Islands of Oahu, Maui, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi.
