Hawaii State Flower: Hawaiian hibiscus

Scientific Name: maʻo hau hele

State Flower Description: There are seven species of Hawaiian hibiscus that are native to the Hawaiian islands and are common to see on the islands. However the maʻo hau hele which is the state flower is not seen as often and is consider by the USFW to be an endangered species. The plant is a very tall shrub that towers to 33 feet and has a bright yellow flower.

Where It's Found: The yellow maʻo hau hele ( Hibiscus brackenridgei ) is most commonly found in Hawaiian ornamental yards currently due to being endangered.
