Idaho State Fish: Cutthroat trout

Scientific Name: Oncorhynchus clarkii

State Fish Description: The Cutthroat trout is the state fish of the state of Idaho and was declared the state fish in 1990. The Cutthroat trout gets it's name from the colorization on the lower portion of the their jawbone. The Cutthroat trout is a popular sports fish for fly fisherman in the western parts of the United States and makes up substantial portion of tourism dollars in many western states in the Colorado Rockies region.

Where It's Found: The Cutthroat trout is found in the tributaries of the Pacific Ocean, the Rocky Mountain streams, and Great Basin rivers and streams in North America. A very popular destination in Idaho that is home to the Cutthroat Trout is Yellow Stone National Park.
