New Mexico State Flower: Yucca flower

Scientific Name: Yucca

State Flower Description: Yucca plants are grown as ornamental plants in gardens. The Yucca produces a large tall stalk of white or purple blossoms. Yucca flowers are bell shaped and greenish white. Many parts of the Yucca are edible which includes the plants fruits, seeds, flowers, stems, and sometimes the roots.

Where It's Found: Yuccas are native to the hot and dry parts of North America, Central America, and the West Indies.

Where It's Found: Purple Lilac's can be found around the world due to their popularity as an ornamental plant. You can find the Purple Lilac often in gardens and parks, because of its attractive, sweet-smelling flowers, which appear in early summer.

Scientific Name: Artemisia tridentata

State Flower Description: Sagebrush is an aromatic, woody shrub, or small tree, the flowers are seen at the end of the stems of the bush. The flowers of the sagebrush are yellow, Monoecious, and tubular.

Where It's Found: Sagebrush is found from California north to Canada, east to Nebraska and south to Mexico. Sagebrush flowers from late summer into the early parts of fall.

Nebraska State Flower

 

Nebraska State Flower: Goldenrod

Scientific Name: Solidago gigantea

State Flower Description: Goldenrod is very common in the United States which blooms around August - October. The flower is a cluster of yellow flowers that form on the top half of the plant. Goldenrod was adopted as the state flower due to it's long season and hardy stature which represented the Nebraska pioneers of the day.

Where It's Found: The Goldenrod is commonly found in the United States and grows in woods, meadows, hills, and on rocky ground. Generally it can be seen blooming in late summer and early fall in large numbers in fields of the Northeast states.

Montana State Flower: Bitterroot

Scientific Name: Lewisia rediviva

State Flower Description: Bitterroot flowers are large for the size of the plant the flower is approximately 1.5 inches - 3 inches in diameter. The Bitterroots flower blooms from May to June and prefer dry conditions it is often referred to as the plant of the summer drought. The Bitterroot flowers are white to pinkish flowers and appear to be leafless. Beging selected as the state flower is indicative of landmarks in the state, the Bitterroot Mountains, the Bitterroot Valley, and the Bitterroot River

Where It's Found: Bitterroot grows from the East Cascades east to the Rockies and from British Columbia south into California, Arizona, and Colorado.

State Flower Description: The Hawthorn is a shrub that flowers a white cluster of flowers which then produces a berry also known as a "Haw". The word Haw comes from an english word meaning hedge. The Hawthorn is edible and commonly used to make jelly or wine in England.

Where It's Found: The Hawthorn is found throughout the northern hemisphere with it's roots coming from England. In regards to Missouri it is most commonly found in southern Missouri.

Mississippi State Flower: Magnolia

Scientific Name: Magnolia

State Flower Description: Magnolia are a showy flower that is very fragrant and is white, pink, purple, green, or yellow. The Magnolia flower posseses 3 sepals and 6-12 petals. Magnolia flowers don't have petals and sepals so to say but are made up of petal-like tepals. Magnolias bloom from April to June only after the completion of their seventh year. Magnolias are thought to be one of the earliest known flowering plants dated back to around 130 million years. The Magnolia is the state flower of Mississippi and Louisiana.

Where It's Found: Magnolias are native to eastern North America, Central America and the West Indies and Asia, as well as South America. Magnolias are representative of the southern states in the United States and are found growing on the end of the evergreen species.

Minnesota State Flower: Pink and white lady's slipper

Scientific Name: Cypripedium reginae

State Flower Description: Pink and White Lady Slipper's are a very rare flower in Minnesota and described as an orchid. The pink and white lady slipper is only seen between late June and early July. The pink and white lady slipper grows very slowly taking anywhere between 4 and 16 years to produce their first flower.

Where It's Found: The pink and white lady slipper grows in calcareous wet lands, open wooded swamps, with tamarack and black spruce and is only found in the north east region of the United States and south east regions of Canada.

Michigan State Flower

 

Michigan State Flower: Apple Blossom

Scientific Name: Malus

State Flower Description: Apple trees are very common in the US and they grow from 20 to 40 feet in height, the Apple Blossom show on the Apple tree from April to June depending on location in the US. Apple blossoms have a cherry pink to white petals.

Where It's Found: Apple trees are found throughout the US but are more prevalent in the Northern states due to it's hardy nature. In the northern states of the US you can find massive apple tree farms in which the fruit is harversted for the apples and cider.
